About Us

Modern Molosser is an award-winning website devoted to those majestic, imposing breeds known as the Molossers.

Do you love the Bullmastiff, Cane Corso, Dogue de Bordeaux, Mastiff, Neapolitan Mastiff or Tibetan Mastiff? Or any of their many relatives all over the world, including rare and little-known breeds, from the Danish Broholmer to the Uruguayan Cimarron? Then this is the place for you.

“MM,” as it’s affectionately called by our readers, is a fully interactive digital archive that can be accessed on computers and laptops as well as mobile devices such as tablets and smart phones. Our articles are written by breed experts and enthusiasts around the globe, and cover all aspects of history, training, health and care.

In addition to our engagingly written and professionally reported stories, our archive takes advantage of the electronic medium with original, beautifully produced videos that literally bring the breeds to life.

The inspiration for Modern Molosser came in 2008, when publisher Denise Flaim attended a judges’ seminar on Molosser breeds. The turnout was huge, and one of the judges Denise traveled with mentioned that she would love it if there was a publication devoted to this family of ancient but little-known dogs.

In short order, Modern Molosser developed a spirited and loyal following among those who love and are loved by these incredible dogs — owners, breeders, exhibitors, judges and admirers from across the globe.

Modern Molosser was published every quarter the “old-fashioned way” through the end of 2013. The new digital version debuted in November 2014. All the original content is being converted to digital form, with new online content added constantly.

About the Publisher

Denise is a professional journalist who is lucky enough to write about the thing she loves – dogs!

Denise was a long-time staff writer and columnist at the Pulitzer-winning Long Island newspaper Newsday before she left in 2009 to co-publish three dog magazines: The Ridgeback Register, Sighthound Review and Modern Molosser. Intrigued by the possibilities of digital publishing, she eventually sold her share in the first two magazines in order to focus her attention on re-imagining Modern Molosser as a digital publication.

In early 2015, Denise launched her own book-publishing company, Revodana Publishing, which publishes multple titles about Molossers, with dozens more books in the pipeline.

A member of the World Dog Press Association, Denise is a contributing writer for Dog News magazine and The Whole Dog Journal. She is also the author of “The Holistic Dog Book: Canine Care for the 21st Century,” “Getting Lucky: How One Dog Found Love and a Second Chance at Angel’s Gate” and “Rescue Ink: How Ten Guys Saved Countless Dogs and Cats, Twelve Horses, Five Pigs, One Duck and a Few Turtles.”

Denise is the recipient two coveted Front Page awards from the Newswomen’s Club of New York for her 2005 Newsday story on ownership disputes over rescued Katrina dogs and her 2006 “Animal House” blogs on the search for Vivi the missing Westminster Whippet.

An American Kennel Club licensed judge, Denise breeds and shows Ridgebacks under the Revodana prefix.
